Which learner numbers actually belong on a training dashboard

Training centres often open a dashboard conversation with a single ask: “Show us attendance.” Attendance matters, yet directors usually need a second layer — whether learners are still on pace for the assessments that define completion.

When we sit with operations managers in Bangkok, we map three layers before drawing a single chart. First, enrolment status: who started and who withdrew. Second, progress checkpoints that already exist in the syllabus — mid-course practicals, theory quizzes, or supervised hours. Third, a clear completion rule that the centre already uses for certificates, even if it lives only in a policy PDF.

If a checkpoint is informal, we leave it off the dashboard. Invented milestones create arguments later. Prefer fewer measures that staff already collect over a crowded wall of charts nobody trusts.

A useful early test: ask two trainers to explain last month’s completion figure using only the dashboard. If they cannot, simplify before you add colour or filters.
